Champions League odds

The draw for the group stage of the Champions League has been made and with Europe’s elite now knowing who they will face in the early part of the competition, we have taken an updated look at the outright contenders in the Champions League odds.

Kai Havertz scored the only goal as Chelsea beat Manchester City 1-0 to be crowned European champions for a second time in last season’s final, denying Pep Guardiola’s side a maiden title.

City have been priced up at 7/2 in our Champions League odds but it is PSG who are 11/4 favourites to lift the trophy in St Petersburg.

PSG

The Champions League title has also so far evaded PSG but the arrival of Lionel Messi to the French capital has seen Mauricio Pochettino’s side leap to the top of the Champions League odds list.

The Argentine manager has assembled an envious squad and it is easy to see how they are favourites to lift the trophy for a first time, even if Kylian Mbappe does leave the Parc des Princes.

They get the chance to test their title credentials with a barnstormer of a Group A draw that has handed them the opportunity to avenge last season’s semi-final defeat to City.

They will also come up against Bundesliga runners-up RB Leipzig and Belgium’s Club Brugge.

PSG to win11/4

Manchester City

Despite dominating the domestic English game in recent years, the Champions League title is the one which still eludes City.

Guardiola has spent five years honing City for European success but the wait continues after losing to Chelsea in the final.

Kevin De Bruyne, Manchester City, Champions League odds

City will be hoping British record signing Jack Grealish can help their cause for a first European crown and they will be looking to repeat their semi-final heroics over PSG in what is the pick of the Group A ties.

Man City to win7/2

Bayern Munich

The 2020 champions bowed out on away goals to PSG at the quarter-final stage last season before brushing that disappointment aside to win the Bundesliga title for a ninth year in a row.

Julian Nagelsmann has taken over the Allianz Arena hot-seat and has already claimed his first piece of silverware after Bayern thrashed Borussia Dortmund 4-1 in the German Super Cup.

Nagelsmann guided RB Leipzig to the semi-finals in the 2019/20 campaign before losing to PSG and Bayern can expect to go deep in the competition once again if successfully navigating Group E containing Barcelona, Benfica and Dynamo Kiev.

Bayern Munich to win13/2

Chelsea

Thomas Tuchel takes the defending champions to Juventus, Malmo and Zenit St Petersburg in Group H as the Stamford Bridge side start their quest for a third Champions League crown.

Having taken over from Frank Lampard, the German boss guided Chelsea to fourth in the league as well as to the FA Cup final, when they lost to Leicester.

The acquisition of Romelu Lukaku only strengthens their claims and they have started the new domestic season in great form.

Chelsea to win8/1

Liverpool

The Reds will hope to mount a stronger challenge in their quest for a seventh European title.

Their defence in 2019/20 ended at the round of 16 before they were eliminated by Real Madrid in the quarter-finals last season.

Mo Salah, Liverpool, Champions League odds

At one stage they seemed likely to miss out on this competition completely before a 10-game unbeaten run to finish the season eventually saw them claim third place in the Premier League.

The return of fans is a massive plus for the Anfield club, who look set for some more famous European nights as they welcome Atletico Madrid, Porto and AC Milan to Merseyside in the group stage.

Liverpool to win9/1

Manchester United

There will be a repeat of the Europa League final for the Red Devils as they have been drawn alongside Villarreal, Atalanta and Young Boys in Group F.

After missing out in 2019/20, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side failed to advance past the group stage last term before final heartache in Poland.

They have recruited well in the summer, signing Jadon Sancho from Dortmund, but more importantly adding four-time Champions League winner Raphael Varane to their defence.

Cristiano Ronaldo is also returning to Old Trafford and the capture of the Portugal captain increases United’s chances of lifting Europe’s premier trophy for the first time since 2008.

Man Utd to win10/1

Real Madrid

Carlo Ancelotti is back in charge at the Bernabeu having led the club to Champions League success in the 2013/14 season.

Los Blancos missed out on back-to-back LaLiga titles to city rivals Atletico on the final day last season but they have looked full of goals in the early stages of the new season.

Gareth Bale has returned to the Spanish capital in fine form and their case for glory would be boosted if Mbappe secures a big-money move to the Galacticos.

The toughest of their Group D opponents appears on paper to be Serie A winners Inter Milan but they also come up against Shakhtar Donetsk, who did the double over them in last season’s group stage, and Sheriff Tiraspol.

Real Madrid to win13/1

Barcelona

The Catalan giants won the last of their five European titles in 2015 and last season failed to reach at least the quarter-finals for the first time since 2007 after being knocked out by PSG.

With their much-publicised financial problems, Sergio Aguero, Eric Garcia and Memphis Depay have all arrived on free transfers.

Sergio Aguero, Barcelona, Champions League odds

Barca have fielded a new-look front three of Depay, Antoine Griezmann and Martin Braithwaite in the early stages of the season and have been drawn alongside Bayern, Benfica and Dynamo Kiev in Group E.

Barcelona to win20/1

Other contenders

Juventus (20/1) re-appointed Massimiliano Allegri as manager following the departure of Andrea Pirlo, who could only guide the club to a fourth-placed finish in Serie A, ending a run of nine successive titles.

Allegri took Juve to two Champions League finals in a glittering first spell but they have now lost star striker Ronaldo.

Atletico Madrid (25/1) head into the new season as LaLiga champions after their first domestic title since 2014.

Having been runners-up in 2014 and 2016 and semi-finalists in 2017, though, Colchoneros have only made it to the quarter-finals once in the past four years.

Serie A champions Inter Milan, who ended Juventus’ domestic dominance, are 50/1 with city rivals AC Milan priced at 70/1.
