Champions Day betting tips, preview and odds

Britain’s richest race day brings the the curtain down on the Flat season and there is a plethora of competitive contests to get stuck into.

We’ve got Champions Day betting tips for each of the six races on the card at Ascot.

1.25 – Long Distance Cup

Stradivarius appears to have met his match of late in Trueshan and their trilogy clash kicks off the Ascot action.

The five-year-old accounted for Stradivarius in this race 12 months ago and when taking the Prix du Cadran at Longchamp earlier this month.

However, Trueshan enjoys cut in the ground and with conditions drying by the minute, it could open the door for a shock.

We’ll chance BERKSHIRE ROCCO, who was beaten only a neck in the St Leger last season and is completely unexposed over staying trips.

Berkshire Rocco each-way14/1

2.00 – Sprint Stakes

The consistent Dragon Symbol heads the market for Archie Watson but we’ll take a chance on his second string, GLEN SHIEL in our Champions Day predictions.

The gutsy seven-year-old gelding was a surprise winner of this last season and is backed to repeat that feat in first-time blinkers.

Versatile ground wise, the son of Pivotal has an excellent course record.

Glen Shiel each-way16/1

2.35- Fillies and Mares Stakes

It’s pretty difficult to oppose SNOWFALL in our Champions Day betting tips.

The daughter of Deep Impact now has her sights lowered having taken on the colts in the Arc last time.

The dual-classic winner created a taking impression with the way she sauntered to victory in the Oaks and Irish Oaks this summer and has already beaten most of this field with ease.

Snowfall to win4/5

3.10 – Queen Elizabeth II Stakes

PALACE PIER looks to bring the curtain down on his impressive career with a fourth straight Group One victory.

His sole career defeat came when a beaten favourite in this last year and although the winner that day, The Revenant, makes some each-way appeal, John Gosden’s Kingman colt is backed to turn the tables this time.

Palace Pier, Champions Day betting tips

A winner of the Queen Anne over course and distance earlier this term, Palace Pier can hand a first loss to the unbeaten young pretender Baaeed.

William Haggas’ three-year-old announced himself as the heir to Palace Pier’s one-mile crown when taking the Prix Du Moulin at Longchamp.

Palace Pier to win6/4

3.50 – Champion Stakes

Although 7lb worse off with Mishriff than when landing the King George earlier in the summer, we fancy ADAYAR to confirm the form in our Champions Day betting tips as the Frankel colt drops back in trip.

The Derby winner was much too keen when going for Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe glory earlier this month but the switch back to 10 furlongs should ensure Charlie Appleby’s charge sees out the trip strongly.

Defending champion Addeybb could find things happening too quickly on drying ground, so French raider Sealiway may have the best chance of springing a surprise.

Adayar to win9/5

4.30 – Balmoral Handicap

John Gosden has a strong hand here, saddling the top two in the market, and it would be no surprise to see either Sunray Major or King Leonidas run away with this.

However, it is hard to ignore SIR BUSKER at a very tempting 12/1.

The five-year-old has only once finished outside the top four over this C&D and was a commendable third in the Queen Anne Stakes here at the Royal meeting.

An each-way bet could prove fruitful and completes our Champions Day betting tips.

Sir Busker each-way12/1
