Liverpool-Luton Town

Can Liverpool avoid shock defeat at home to Luton?

Liverpool | WWLWW | 1st | Top Scorer: Mohamed Salah (15)

Liverpool have won 4 of their last 5 and they'll come into this match full of confidence they can keep their good run going. Liverpool like to have a lot of the ball in the opponent's half. This is backed up by the stats as they average 61% possession and 18.9 shots per match. Both figures rank in the top 10 in the EPL. Alisson has conceded just 4 goals in his last 5, making 7 great saves in this time.

Luton | LLDWD | 17th | Top Scorer: E. Adebayo (9)

Luton come into this match in poor form. They haven't been able to secure a win in any of their last 3 matches. Goals could come early and often in this one. The Hatters have had no issue scoring with 11 goals in their last 5 matches, while Liverpool average an exceptional 2.13 xG (expected goals) per match. Amari'i Bell has been in great form defensively. He's won 30 tackles this season which puts him 21st in the EPL. On the attacking side, Carlton Morris has been their leader this season with 48 shots taken (18th in the EPL).

Liverpool-Luton Prediction: 4-0

It looks like Luton have their work cut out here. If Liverpool's attack clicks, it could be a whitewash.

Liverpool – Season Preview

Nickname: The Reds
Stadium: Anfield (Capacity 54,000)
Manager: Jurgen Klopp (GER)
Last Season: 5th

Liverpool fans will be expecting a vast improvement on last season’s poor campaign, and should be optimistic about their prospects going into this one. An influx of new faces in midfield, an evolved formation and a clear-out of ageing players should mean that Liverpool are at least competing for Champions League places again this year, if not the Premier League title.

Key Player: Trent Alexander-Arnold

One of the few positives Reds fans can take from last season was Trent’s transition into his new, hybrid role. Drifting into midfield gives Trent more opportunity to use his exquisite distribution skills in other areas of the pitch, rather than endlessly crossing the ball in from the right hand-side. Couple Trent’s new role with the array of attacking talent Liverpool have at their disposal, and you’ve got a nightmare to defend against.

Star Signing: Dominic Szoboszlai £60m

Liverpool lacked creativity and goals from midfield last season, and Dominic Szoboszlai brings both. A supremely talented player, Szoboszlai is capable of beating players one on one, picking an inch-perfect pass and scoring a screamer from distance. He’s also just as comfortable out on the wing as he is in midfield, and as such will bring a versatile attacking element to Jurgen Klopp’s side.

First Match: Chelsea (A) August 13

Liverpool travel to Stamford Bridge for their first match of the campaign, and will be faced with a Chelsea side who’ll be similarly desperate to improve on last season’s returns.

Predicted Finish: 2nd

It’s hard to imagine anyone beating Pep Guardiola’s monstrous Man City side for the title. Liverpool, however, have a point to prove this season, and with a refreshed, reinvigorated midfield and Jurgen Klopp at the helm, you can expect to see the Reds back in the Champions League very soon.

Will the Reds get back into the Champions League this season?

Liverpool - Top 4 Finish: 1.50
